
UNISON 20 years of R2L
Homer Creative were recently commissioned by UNISON – one of Europe’s largest unions – to create a special booklet to celebrate and illustrate the power of their award-winning flagship education course Return To Learn (R2L), which was 20 years old in 2008.
For 16 of the last 20 years Homer Creative have been heavily involved in marketing and advertising R2L, with extensive experience in promoting education initiatives and producing striking people-focused solutions. So we were the natural choice to write, edit and design this commemorative booklet.
The booklet consists of photographs of learners taken over the last 20 years, together with quotes about how R2L has benefited them in their career and outside the workplace. The use of simple, clear design and typography focuses on students and their thoughts to emphasise R2L’s main priorities – opportunity, personal development and recognition for UNISON members.
Donald Cameron, Membership Development Officer for UNISON Learning & Organising, said: “We wanted to convey a complicated set of messages through this booklet – collective effort, personal history, pride, celebration – while at the same time reflecting the real people who have taken part in this successful programme. The booklet’s format, images and quotes achieved our aims very successfully and it was well received by both past students and our target group of opinion formers within UNISON and outside.”
