We worked with Easington and Seaham EAZ extensively from shortly after its inception in 2001 to 2005 when, along with other EAZs, it came to the end of its operating life. This work included creating an evaluation and celebration brochure.

The Zone wished to communicate to a range of audiences (including pupils, parents, staff, LEA, politicians and opinion formers) and celebrate the successes of the schools in the Zone rather than foreground EAZ involvement and we were responsible for writing, editing, photography, design and print.

For the evaluation (Lighting the Way) we suggested that a brochure format would best serve the desire to review the whole life of the Zone, as well as recent work. We further suggested that the document should be based on edited extracts from key interviews together with strong use of photography. We carried out recorded interviews both face-to-face and by telephone with 50 people including the Deputy Director of Education, local politicians, representatives of partner organisations (both local and national), pupils, heads and teachers. We edited and conceptualised the approximately 40 hours of material into a 48-page A4 glossy brochure for which we commissioned photography by Roy Peters. The job started in June 2004 and copies were delivered to an agreed deadline in early December 2004.
