four prospectuses reinforce the acorn brand
Our work with Acorn Care and Education, one of England's foremost providers of education and care for vulnerable and hard to place young people, continued in the Autumn with prospectuses for Belmont, Grange Therapeutic, Underley Hall and Oakfield House schools.
Manipulating space, images, text and flow in appropriate ways for each school, we are confident that we are reinforcing and extending their brand while enabling them to give clear and reassuring information to prospective students, parents and other stakeholders.
We’ve been working hard to give each school a strong, individual identity and an enhanced professional profile in the information they send to local authorities, prospective students and their parents, to match the professionalism of the schools’ work. We’ve already done some newsletters for Underley Hall and Oakfield House, so we kept the design styles, with curves and symbols, that had already begun to develop and are working well for them.
For Grange Therapeutic, Sue Race produced a new identity and went with our photographer to the school to gain background knowledge. She says; “It was very useful to see the style of teaching they use. Because students have had behavioural difficulties, the staff are always working to keep the atmosphere calm. It’s all about helping students to focus and to have a range of activities that they can relate to. The classes are small and there is a lot of one to one teaching. Outdoor activities provide a lot of the opportunities to learn team work and to gain self esteem and just to have fun!”
Parents need to be reassured that a school is friendly, has a variety of stimulating activities, allows students to really get involved and has all the educational expertise to deal with their child’s needs. Sue again, “We have to make the material look engaging. Fewer study pictures and a wider range of outdoor activity shots, people having fun, vocational learning going on as well as academic.”
Matt Sadler worked at the same time on a new look for Belmont. Again this was the start of a new relationship for us so time was spent really getting an idea of what they liked visually and what they needed in marketing terms. Matt remembers, “They wanted a good balance of content and space. They liked work that was clean and uncluttered. So I used white space and developed a flexible grid style to give movement. The great thing about that is that you can give each spread unique differences and varied flow.”
As the school had some photos taken of students against a white background, which they were keen to use, we took the cut out visual one step further and used cut outs for other appropriate photo images. Says Matt, “It adds another level of interest and breaks out of the hard lines of the squared up shots.”
Balance is an over-arching concern of all our work for the Acorn schools, as is always giving our clients specialist support. The response from our client? “It’s fantastic!”
